Patricia Hickman

Double Bind

She is a prominent conceptual fiber artist who creates forms we have never seen before. Her route to becoming an artist was, and still is, greatly informed by place - by where she lives. Hickman responds to place through the materials available that carry meaning and ideas. She thoughtfully offers titles, clues to her silent communication; title suggests metaphors, metaphors reveal stories. Double Bind was created in 2010 for an exhibition using torn, raw edges of silk saris and mawata silk squares.
