Icons of Elegance: The Most Influential Shoe Designers of the 20th Century
October 7, 2007 - January 20, 2008
RAM was the first and only venue in the United States to host this exhibition featuring examples of exquisite footwear ranging from handcrafted perfection to dazzling shoes that rival modern sculpture as artworks in their own right.
Organized by The Bata Shoe Museum, Toronto, Canada, this exhibition brought together shoes created by designers who transformed 20th century footwear. Highlights included the innovative and elegant shoes of mid-century masters Salvatore Ferragamo and Roger Vivier, as well as chic contemporary shoes by Manolo Blahnik and Christian Louboutin.
Other designers represented included Francois Pinet, Pietro Yantorny, Andre Perugia, Charles Jourdan, Beth Levine, Andrea Pfister, Jimmy Choo, and Vivienne Westwood.
