Jimmy Yanny + The Coffee House

Celebrating a Community of Food & Arts

At The Coffee House in Burlington, you’re welcome to gather for food, drinks, conversation, and community. Jimmy Yanny is an artist who hails from Burlington and is part of the arts community there.

When invited to be one of the participating restaurants, the Coffee House immediately thought of Jimmy Yanny as an artist with whom they wanted to be paired. His story is captivating and his process is intriguing.

This pairing is about sharing a common bond and making a connection through the arts.

Jimmy Yanny will celebrate his 65th birthday at SAVOUR 2019. His teachers in middle school recognized his art ability and encouraged his mother to nurture his art skills. In 6th, 7th, and 8th grades, he received Helen Farnsworth Mears Art Contest awards in Burlington and Racine counties. During his senior year in high school, Jimmy was hospitalized with mental illness. Nonetheless, he was able to get his BFA from the University of Wisconsin – Parkside in 1981.

Art is what keeps me connected, engaged and alive.

Between then and 2013, Jimmy did very little art. His mother’s move to a nursing home in 2013 left a huge void in his life, and he was hospitalized at Rogers Memorial. The doctors recommended pursuing art again. Jimmy joined an art group in Burlington called, the gathering. He does an artwork each week plus a volunteer art workshop at the senior center monthly. Jimmy also does workshops for high school kids during mental health week twice a year as well as volunteer workshops around Burlington. He’s involved in the WRAP of Wisconsin program, with two pieces accepted to the state conference. More recently, Jimmy has had work accepted into Watercolor Wisconsin exhibitions at RAM’s Wustum Museum of Fine Arts.
