Any artist who is a resident of (or maintains a residence in) Wisconsin and is 18 years or older.

Submission of Entries
  • One or two works made after 2016 may be entered.
  • Work must be executed in an aqueous medium or water-based medium combined with dry or mixed media; for example: watercolor, acrylic, ink, or gouache.
  • All work must be on a paper surface, including 2-D, collage, book, or 3-D construction. Canvas, canvas panels, yupo, and non-paper surfaces are unacceptable.
  • Hand-colored photographs and digitally-created media are also unacceptable.
  • Work must be framed adequately, glazed with glass or Plexiglas®, and wired for hanging. Sawtooth hangers are not acceptable. Consult staff for deviations from this rule before Wednesday, October 2. RAM reserves the right to refuse works that do not meet the museum’s standards for quality, presentation, and framing.
  • Work must not have been created under the direct supervision of a teacher.
  • Work must not have been exhibited at RAM’s Wustum Museum or RAM.
  • Submissions must meet all requirements listed above.

Ship Work to Racine Art Museum, 441 Main Street
Deadline for receipt: Wednesday, October 2

  • Ship work to RAM, Attn: Keifer Waterman, at 441 Main Street, Racine, WI  53403
  • ​Send entries prepaid, in sturdy, returnable, well-marked cartons.
  • ​Provide return shipping fees. Attached payment to the registration card.

Lal Bahcecioglu is the Manager of Exhibitions and Collections at the Elmhurst Art Museum in Elmhurst, Illinois. She previously worked at Zilberman Gallery, Istanbul; SALT, Istanbul; and the Goethe-Institut, New York. Bahcecioglu received her BS in architecture from Vienna University of Technology and her MA in Curatorial Practice from the School of Visual Arts in New York, New York.

Paula Kowalczyk is currently Associate Vice President, Regional Account Manager for Christie’s in Chicago. Before joining Christie’s in 2003, she was the Director of Development for Street-Level Youth Media in Chicago, Illinois. Kowalczyk received her FA from Eastern Michigan University and her MFA from the University of Pennsylvania.

Submitting artwork to this competition constitutes an agreement by the artists with RAM to photograph and reproduce work for publicity and catalogue purposes.

Valuation of Submitted Work
Prices may not be changed after entry, and should represent the retail price of the framed work. Please note that RAM collects a 40% commission on works that are for sale. If your entry is not for sale (NFS), please include an insurance value.

Insurance and Liability
Entries will be handled with care, but RAM is not responsible for loss or damage from any cause, whatsoever, during jurying. RAM assumes liability for works selected for exhibition.

The following prizes will be awarded:

  • $400 First Award, $300 Second Award, $200 Third Award, and three $100 Merit Awards
  • ​Merchandise awards and gift certificates totaling nearly $4,000
  • Each year RAM purchases work from this exhibition for the permanent collection. Artists willing to accept the standard amounts of $300, $500, and $800––even when their retail price is higher––should check the appropriate box(es) on the Registration Card. RAM also reserves the right to choose to purchase works at 60% of their retail price, whether the net amount to the artist is less or more than the three standard award amounts.

Notification by Phone
Artists will be notified by phone about entry status no later than 5:00 pm on Tuesday, October 8.
