SUMMARY:Free First Friday: February 2026
DESCRIPTION:Free First Friday: February 2026\nFree Family Hands-On Art Activity\, Photography: Rachel Comande\nThanks to the generous funding of the Osborne and Scekic Family Foundation\, Racine Art Museum visitors can enjoy free admission from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on First Friday\, February 6. Plus\, visitors can enjoy a museum scavenger hunt\, a special make-and-take art project\, and an opportunity to create their own poetry—guided by local poet\, Gifted. \nJoin RAM Education Staff between 1:00 and 4:00 pm to explore the use of colors and patterns on wooden die cut shapes\, crafting wearable art and jewelry inspired by Tanya Crane’s Cardinal Points—currently on display in Tanya Crane: Embodied Histories—Exploring the Legacy of African Jewelry. \nAccording to Crane\, Cardinal Points uses four circular forms to explore direction\, migration\, and cultural memory\, while also reflecting how language and stories shift through movement and time. Referencing the four cardinal directions\, the work considers how traditions\, words\, and meanings travel\, are translated\, and are sometimes misinterpreted across generations. The four discs can be read as distinct voices or narratives that together form a larger conversation about heritage\, belonging\, and community. \nAlso between 1:00 and 4:00 pm\, visitors can immerse themselves in the world of poetry alongside local poet\, Gifted—a multidisciplinary performance poet whose work lives at the intersection of spoken word\, storytelling\, and social reflection. Through voice and presence\, Gifted transforms lived experience into immersive art\, inviting audiences into moments that are intimate\, honest\, and emotionally charged.
