SUMMARY:Gallery Talk: Celebrating Frances and Michael Higgins with Collector Craig B. Johnson
DESCRIPTION:Gallery Talk: Celebrating Frances and Michael Higgins with Collector Craig B. Johnson\nInstallation view of Collection Focus: Frances and Michael Higgins\nPhotography: Jarvis Lawson\nSaturday\, May 18\, 2024\n2:30 pm \nRAM invites you to enjoy an exclusive opportunity to learn more about Frances and Michael Higgins—a much-admired couple of American artists who reinvigorated the ancient practice of glass fusing. A career-spanning exhibition\, Collection Focus: Frances and Michael Higgins debuts part of a recently established archive collection of 75 works\, created collaboratively and individually by the Higginses\, which was donated by noted collector Craig B. Johnson. \nAt 2:30 pm on Saturday\, May 18\, in partnership with Hot Shop Glass—who are hosting a sold-out fused glass workshop earlier that day\, inspired by the Higginses’ work—RAM Executive Director and Curator of Collections Bruce W. Pepich will host a conversation with Johnson about his collecting practices and his long-term relationship with the Higginses. \nAdmission to RAM will be free up to 15-minutes prior to the start of the talk\, and there is no fee associated with the event. Light refreshments will be served.

SUMMARY:Book Signing with Rory Graves
DESCRIPTION:Book Signing with Rory Graves\nHaunted Racine by Rory Graves\nFriday\, October 6 \n4:00 – 7:00 pm \n\nJoin RAM for a spooktacular night as Rory Graves signs copies of their brand-new book\, Haunted Racine\, at RAM on Friday\, October 6 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. \n\nLike so many cities bordering Lake Michigan\, Racine has a long and storied history. Some of that history is stranger than fiction. The Live Towerview neighborhood\, brimming with stories of the city’s earliest burial sites\, is a hotbed of ghostly activity. Former asylums like the ambitious Taylor Home Orphan Asylum and the infamous Racine County Insane Asylum are filled with chilling tales of the unexplained. The local Masonic Temple houses the restless souls of some of the city’s earliest residents. So do Chances Food & Spirits and Ivanhoe\, two of the most haunted taverns in Southeastern Wisconsin. In Haunted Racine\, historian Rory Graves tells the stories of these\, and many other\, spooky locations. \nDon’t miss this frighteningly fun event as part of RAM’s celebration during Downtown Racine’s October First Friday event. Haunted Racine will be available to purchase in the RAM Museum Store.

SUMMARY:Double Your Impact to RAM's Year-End Matching Campaign
DESCRIPTION:Double Your Impact to RAM’s Year-End Matching Campaign\nVideo by Matt Binetti and Camela Langendorf\nIn just a few short months\, we will be celebrating RAM’s 20th Anniversary in Downtown Racine. Serving thousands of creatives and art appreciators for the past 81 years at RAM and Wustum would not have been possible without the generosity and support from people like you—our members and friends.   \nRAM is especially pleased and honored to announce that for the third year in a row\, the first $30\,000 in 2022 year-end gifts received or postmarked by December 31\, 2022\, will be matched by two generous funding partners: \nDavid CharakRuffo Family Foundation \nWe are very grateful to work with these passionate long-time supporters who firmly believe that the arts positively impact the lives of people of all ages––as well as the communities in which they live. \nAdditionally\, Andis Foundation matched the first $3\,000 donated on #GivingTuesday\, a global movement that encourages generosity and giving on Tuesday\, November 29. #GivingTuesday is an integral part of RAMA’s annual year-end campaign that is essential in support of its world-class exhibitions and nationally-recognized educational programming to underserved communities. \nPlease remember that we are deeply grateful for any gift\, regardless of the amount\, and that less than 3% of RAM’s operating income comes from any one single person\, company\, or foundation. \nOn behalf of the Board of Directors and all staff at RAM and Wustum\, we wish you a joyful holiday season and a happy\, peaceful\, and healthy New Year! \nDONATE NOW

SUMMARY:Call for Artists: What's Your Sign? RAM Virtual Community Art Show
DESCRIPTION:Call for Artists:\nWhat’s Your Sign? RAM Virtual Community Art Show\n\nDavid R. Harper\nAquarius from the Zodiac Series\, 2018\nResin\, rubber coating\, steel\, plaster\, India ink\, and fireball pearls\n36 x 11 x 24 inches\nRacine Art Museum\, Gift of the Kohler Foundation\, Inc.\nPhotography: Rich Maciejewski\n\nEntry Deadline: Monday\, September 19 at 4:00 pm CDT \nLEARN MORE AND SUBMIT ENTRYThe word zodiac is used to describe an astrological system or\, perhaps more often in popular context\, the twelve regions that make up the system and that are identified as “signs.” These signs\, associated with different animals or symbols\, are also linked to personality traits and the specific day someone was born. \nRAM’s upcoming show\, David R. Harper: Zodiac will feature a series of sculptural works based on the signs of the zodiac. Harper uses imagery and metaphor to encourage people to think about how an object’s meaning can change based on who is interacting with it. Further\, he hopes viewers will reflect on their own selves\, in his words: “to see themselves\, based on their zodiac characteristics\, in some way in the work.” \nRacine Art Museum and RAM’s Wustum Museum invites artists to investigate the zodiac for the museums’ third Virtual Community Art Show. A few of the many ways to participate include: using the animals/beings associated with the signs for inspiration\, creating a personal astrological system or system of signs\, creating a symbol that reflects individual personalities\, using animal imagery to reflect bigger ideas\, creating personal Tarot card art\, artistically charting personal signs with the sun\, moon\, and rising signs considered\, and creating art related to the star or constellations.

SUMMARY:Virtual Tour of Collection Focus: Mara Superior
DESCRIPTION:Virtual Tour of Collection Focus: Mara Superior\nRAM is pleased to announce an upcoming virtual tour of the museum’s current exhibition Collection Focus: Mara Superior\, a retrospective of the work of contemporary porcelain artist Mara Superior. \nWATCH ON FACEBOOKWATCH ON YOUTUBEBlending past and present day concerns\, notions of Americana\, and personal experience\, Mara Superior playfully challenges—while simultaneously adding to—a history of porcelain decorative objects and tableware. With a singular aesthetic that feels reverent yet unique\, Superior builds narratives that unfold through images\, words\, and form. \nThis virtual visit of the museum galleries with RAM Executive Director and Curator of Collections Bruce W. Pepich and RAM Curator of Exhibitions Lena Vigna brings the exhibition\, Collection Focus: Mara Superior\, to life. Their candid\, informative discussion about Mara Superior’s work and inspiration offers a deeper understanding of the artist’s creative journey. Professionally produced by Matt Binetti of Reservoir Video Co.\, Pepich and Vigna’s 14-minute video tour details the artist’s nuanced approach to working with porcelain. \nWhen to Watch\nThis virtual tour will premiere at 12:30 pm CST on Thursday\, December 9 on the RAM Facebook page. A Facebook account is not required to watch the video\, but viewers with an account will be able to ask questions during the premiere and receive responses from museum staff in real-time.
