Karyl Sisson uses recycled and repurposed materials to create baskets and sculptures, like the clothespins used in Container XV. She is particularly interested in familiar materials related to domesticity and gender roles, such as women’s vanity items, sewing notions, and other objects associated with housekeeping. It was during her graduate studies in Los Angeles where she was first exposed to artists working with unconventional materials such as Judy Chicago, Miriam Schapiro, and Ed Rossbach.
