Motivated by a desire to record the “beauty of man-made objects and energy of American industry,” Edmund Lewandowski was inspired by early twentieth-century painters who were emphasizing urban subjects and a streamlined modernist aesthetic. This watercolor was created when Lewandowski was in his twenties and it shows his early interest in industrial themes and what is called a “hard-edged precisionist” style.
