Lniana Tablica (The Flaxboard)

Barbara Gałan graduated in 1978 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz, Poland, where she studied textiles and clothing. Works such as this linen and flax piece reflect her connections to other Polish artists making fiber pieces in the 1990s. Challenged with material limitations, they embraced the possibilities of atypical materials, innovative techniques, and/or compelling content. Traditional processes, such as weaving or knotting, served as the groundwork for thoughtful experimentation.
