Playing on painting traditions that use light, shadow, and juxtaposition to add layers of meaning, Anne Miotke created watercolors of still life subjects, such as in Red Branch. Miotke often incorporated objects gathered during her travels in her work, stating that such things “reveal personal history and introduce the concept of artist as collector.” Born in Milwaukee, she taught in the area for decades while simultaneously exhibiting her work.
