Buried Treasure
Mabel Dwight

Building on a long-term relationship with paper—studying its history and physical capabilities—Michael Velliquette explores color theory, patternmaking, process, and labor through two- and three-dimensional work and installations. Serpent (Black/Gold)–with a serpent built through many pieces of paper or “scales” and a complicated structure that reads as a body folding over itself–showcases his use of animals as both representations of themselves and as metaphor for social and cultural standards.
