Plan Your Visit

The Racine Art Museum Association consists of two museums in Racine, Wisconsin, a historic community on the shores of Lake Michigan—Racine Art Museum (RAM) in the heart of Downtown, and RAM’s Charles A. Wustum Museum of Fine Arts (Wustum) located just two miles away. RAM’s national reputation is built on its collection of contemporary craft—the largest in the entire country—its award-winning architecture, and its nationally recognized exhibition program. Alongside notable community-focused exhibitions, Wustum proudly brings art to locals through various outreach programs and offers one of the largest museum-based studio art programs in Wisconsin.

RAM is a proud member of Wisconsin Art Destinations, a first-of-its-kind assembly of 16 art museums working together to raise the profile of the state as a destination for the visual arts by inviting visitors and neighbors of all backgrounds, inclinations, and levels of interest in art to explore and experience Wisconsin’s art museums and surrounding areas.

Accessibility

If you have a specific question or concern you would like to address prior to your visit, email us at [email protected] or call RAM at 262.638.8300 or Wustum at 262.636.9177.

Both museums will do their best to accommodate accessibility requests if contacted three weeks prior to a visit or event.

  • Wheelchairs, electric mobility scooters, and Segways used for mobility are always welcome. Manually operated wheelchairs are available to borrow at RAM and Wustum reception on a first-come, first-serve basis.

  • One large accessible elevator is located on the first and second floors at RAM near the restrooms. A smaller elevator is located on the first and second floors in Gallery Four (Ruffo Gallery) and Gallery Five (Schumann Gallery). All elevators access the same floors.

  • Wustum does not have an elevator, which limits some visitors to the first floor galleries. The museum photographs all works on the second floor and displays them on a monitor inside the first floor galleries for viewing.

  • RAM’s and Wustum’s main entrances have an automatic door opener.

  • All staircases have handrails.

  • Benches and chairs are provided throughout public spaces in both the museums.

  • Service animals and service animals-in-training are welcome inside both museums. The animal must always be under physical or voice control of the handler and follow all other museum policies. Animals whose sole function is to provide emotional support, comfort, therapy, and companionship are not considered service animals and therefore are not allowed in the museum.
  • Braille is included on signage designating floors and rooms at RAM.

  • Light levels in some galleries are intentionally low for art preservation, which some visitors may find visually challenging.

Museum Mindfulness

  • For the safety of visitors and the artwork, please do not touch the works. Some exhibitions include tactile samples of materials found throughout the gallery spaces, which are labeled separately from others works on display and may be touched.

  • Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult at all times and are not admitted without adult supervision. Up to three children under the age of 12 can enter RAM for free with paid adult admission.

  • Food and drinks, including water, are not allowed in the galleries at either museum. Please leave these with reception staff. Water fountains are located near the bathrooms on both floors at RAM.
  • Please leave backpacks and large bags with reception staff. Medical and small diaper bags are permitted.

  • Do not enter restricted or non-public areas, which includes stepping beyond barriers or onto platforms.

  • Do not run, jump, or roughhouse in the galleries or climb on pedestals.

  • Do not smoke, vape, or chew tobacco inside the museum.

  • Verbally abusive, harassing, discriminatory, or threatening statements or behavior toward RAM staff, volunteers, and guests is prohibited.

  • RAM and Wustum reserve the right to refuse or revoke the admission, without refund, of any person whose conduct opposes these guidelines.
