In 2023, Milwaukee artist Nicole Acosta’s The HOOPS Project was developed into a stage play that includes original music by Milwaukee performer and producer B~Free. The play debuted in Milwaukee and began a run in Boston in July 2024.

Join RAM and Acosta for a reading of excerpts from the play and a subsequent community dialogue at the Racine Theater Guild at 6:30 pm on Thursday, September 5. This event is an extension of her photography exhibition at Wustum, Nicole Acosta: HOOPS—Beyond the Aesthetic Lies the Story. Wustum will open its galleries for extended hours before the Table Read and Community Conversation, allowing visitors to experience the work in preparation at 5:00 pm. The museum will also host a reception afterwards with light refreshments from 911 Tacos and Lopéz Bakery.

This event is free and open to the public. Children may attend, but please note the event is suggested for ages 12 and older. American Sign Language interpretation will be provided at the Racine Theatre Guild.

HOOPS Table Read and Community Conversation and Nicole Acosta: HOOPS—Beyond the Aesthetic Lies the Story are supported in part by an Equity Innovation Fund Grant from the United Way of Racine County.
