Fundamentals of Painting
Photography: RAM Staff
8 Weeks, September 29 – November 17
Thursdays, 1:00 – 4:00 pm
Instructor/Artist: Tom Hoffman
This class is foundations-based, dealing with the basic principles of painting. Students will complete exercises that explore composition, value, color, line, and texture while working from direct observation. Acrylic, oil, or other opaque paints are recommended (no transparent watercolor). The class will touch on the time-honored techniques of European experts to produce representational imagery while also exploring the movements into abstraction. The overarching goal is to equip the student with a basic knowledge of painting and demystify the process—instilling confidence to tackle independent projects.
