Artist Saul De La Cruz + La Chitarra—Nico De La Cruz

Artist + Food Pairing at SAVOUR 2021:
The Heirloom: A Family Memory

Meet cousins Saul and Nico De La Cruz. From the time Saul was a child, he has been making and creating, using whatever materials he had access to. Nico grew up interested in the kitchen—his mother was a home chef who taught him to blend his heritage with other cultural food influences. La Chitarra, one of the Collective Root food vendors at The Branch, brings flavors together from coastal Mediterranean cuisine across countries.

What makes these cousins connect? A shared memory. Images of their grandfather, a migrant worker, pulling fresh food from his urban garden, whatever was in season. See and taste how this this shared memory is captured by both cousins—one visually in his art piece, and the other through taste—from the plate to the palate, and from the palette to paper.
